Account
  • Can I add additional vehicles (with their own Salik tags) to my existing Salik account?
    Yes. When you fill out the application form when you buy a new Salik tag, indicate that you have an existing account. Let us know the account number and the new tag will be added to your existing account.
    If you don’t receive an SMS from us confirming that we’ve registered your new tag within 10 working days, please call us.
  • Can I have a different Salik account for each of my vehicles?
    No. If you have multiple vehicles registered in your name, then you have only one Traffic File Number. Your Traffic File Number can only be used for one Salik account and vice versa. The only exception is if you have a different Traffic File Number for a vehicle registered in another emirate, in which case, both Traffic File Numbers can be on the same account.
  • Can I transfer my Salik account balance to a friend or relative?
    Account balances are not refundable or transferable. The balance will be kept in your Salik account for five (5) years, after which, it is forfeited.
  • How can I check my unpaid trips?
    Once you are logged you will see a dashboard showing your recent activity. If you have any unpaid trips you will see a countdown timer showing you how long you have to pay these trips before they turn into violations
  • How do I check my account balance?
    You can find out your Salik account balance if you:

  • How do I manage my Salik account online
    To set up your online Salik Profile use the Smart Salik App or visit www.salik.gov.ae and create a username and password. Now you’ll be able to:
    • Recharge your own or a friend’s Salik account
    • Add a Salik tag/vehicle to your account
    • View your toll trips
    • View any fines (violations).
    • Update your profile information
    • Print out a monthly statement
  • How much will it cost me to set up a Salik account?
    Your setup cost is AED 100. This includes AED 50 for your Salik tag and AED 50 for the prepaid toll balance that will be added to your Salik account.
  • I am a handicap, how can I apply for the Salik fees exemption?
    You can now use the Smart Salik App. You can also use www.salik.gov.ae or phone Salik on 800 SALIK (72545)
  • I am leaving the country; can I claim my Salik account balance?
    Account balances are not refundable or transferable. The balance will be kept in your Salik account for five (5) years, after which, it is forfeited.
  • If I have more than one vehicle, will I need to open a separate Salik account for each of my Salik tags?
    No. You can register as many tags as you like on one Salik account if all the vehicles are registered in your name and have the same Traffic File Number/ Traffic code. Each vehicle must have its own unique Salik tag, though.
  • If I sell my car and don’t buy another one, what happens to the balance in my Salik account?
    If you sell the vehilce, firstly you need to remove the tag from the vehicle and deactivate the tag from your Salik account immediately. If you do not do this you will be responsible for any tolls incurred by that vehicle by the new owner. You can Deactivate the tag by:

    We’ll keep your account open with the existing balance ready for when you do buy a new vehicle. If there is no activity on your account for five (5) years after the date of your last trip, you forfeit your account balance.
  • What do I do if I have a new mobile number different from the one that was originally linked to my Salik account?
    If you have a new mobile number, it must be linked to your account. You can do this by:

         Choose the language: 1 for Arabic or 2 for English
      - Press 1 to Recharge your account and follow the instructions

  • What happens if I do not use the toll gates for a long period of time?
    If you don’t drive through a Salik toll gate OR recharge your account for a period of five (5) years, then you will forfeit your Salik account balance. We’ll SMS you to remind you a month, and again two weeks before the five (5) years elapse.
  • What happens if I don't have enough funds in my account?
    If your Salik account balance is insufficient to cover your toll, you need to recharge your Salik account within 5 working days or you will get a fine of AED 50 for each day that you pass through the Salik toll gates.
  • What happens if I sell my vehicle, change my license plate or buy another vehicle?
    If you sell the vehicle you need to remove the tag from the vehicle and deactivate the tag from your Salik account immediately. If you do not do this you will be responsible for any tolls incurred by that vehicle by the new owner. You can Deactivate the tag by:

  • Will I get an SMS from Salik if there are any changes to my account?
    Yes you should however there may be reasons outside of Salik's control where you may not receive the SMS. It is therefore important for you to check your balance regularly to avoid any Violations. You can do this by:

How does it work
  • Do I need a Tag to drive through Salik?
    Customers must ensure their purchased Salik tags are registered on the Salik system with the correct information, otherwise customers may received a violation when they cross the Salik tolling points.  Your Salik account will be created and the Salik tag will be activated after purchasing. You will then receive an SMS sent to the provided mobile number which includes the account number and PIN.
    If you do not receive that SMS within 10 working days you must activate your tag by the following options:
    • Smart Salik mobile Application: You can download from Apple App Store (http://goo.gl/K1Gq4E) and Google Play (http://goo.gl/FzYvjA) or simply scan the QR code
    • Salik website: www.salik.gov.ae
    • Or phone our 24 HR Salik self-service on 800-Salik (“72545”) then:
    o Choose the language: 1 for Arabic or 2 for English
    o Press 4 for Activation and follow the instructions
  • What happens if I don’t have a Salik tag and I drive through a Salik toll gate?
    If you drive through a Salik toll gate without a Salik tag on your vehicle, you must buy a tag within 10 working days to open a Salik account (or add the new tag to your existing Salik account, if you already have one). If you don’t do this, you will get a fine:
    • AED 100 for the first day you drive through Salik toll gates (after the 10 working days grace period).
    • AED 200 for the second day (after the 10 working days grace period)
    • AED 400 for each subsequent day.(after the  10 working days grace period)
Recharging
  • Can I set up my account to Auto Recharge?
    Yes you can. In fact this is the easiest and most convenient way to manage your Salik account and avoid any violations from your account running out of money. You can set this up through your bank or Mpay
  • How do I recharge my Salik account?
    There are lots of ways to top up your Salik account – just choose the method that is easiest for you here.
  • How do I recharge someone else's account?
    You can Recharge someone else's account if you have their account number and PIN or now even easier if you have their Mobile and plate number. - Just choose the method that is easiest for you here.
  • How do I Recharge using Mobile and Plate number?
    If you have the Mobile phone number that is registered on the account plus the vehicle's number plate you can use these to select the account to be recharged instead of using the account number and PIN.
  • How much can I recharge?
    You can Recharge from as little as 50 Dirhams up to 50,000 Dirhams for commercial users.
Smart Salik / Website
  • Do I need to connect to the Internet to access the Smart Salik App?
    To download and use all Smart Salik features you need to have either a wifi connection or a data connection that allows you access to the Internet.
    Please note that using the recharge option without logging in does not require Internet connectivity since it uses the SMS to recharge the account.
  • How do I download the Smart Salik App?
    To download the App simply visit Google Play, Apple App Store, Blackberry World or Windows Store or by scanning the QR code available on the home page.
  • How do I log in to the Smart Salik App?
    To log in simply tap the "Sign In Now" button and enter your Username and Password. If you have never set up a User Profile before, tap on the "Sign In Now" button and a new screen will open. Tap on the "New Online User" button and follow the instructions
    If you have alreday set up an Online Profile on the website just use the same Username and Password
  • I need help setting up an online user profile on the Website or Smart Salik App
    If you are having trouble setting up your online user account using the wizard, please contact us on 800-Salik and we will be happy to assist you
  • On the website or App, I am being asked to enter my Tag number. What is this?
    The tag number is from the Salik tag you purchased. You will find the number on the back of the tag. When entering the number into the required field, ignore the "DTS" printed before the digits.
  • Using the Smart Salik App, how do I log in to my online account using my fingerprint?
    When you first log in to the new Smart Salik App your phone will ask if you want to set up a fingerprint. Just follow the phone's instructions and you can now log in simply by using your fingerprint.
  • What is the happiness meter?
    It is one of Dubai's first strategic Smart City initiatives. You can rate your experience while using the Smart Salik App by simply chosing the Happy, Sad or Neutral face.

  • Why is there a Camera Icon next to some fields?
    The OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality, allows your device's camera to read the recharge card / eVoucher number and populate the corresponding field with the identified number. This saves you from having to manually enter the number.
    To initiate the OCR feature, simply tap the OCR icon next to the recharge card / eVoucher number field. This will launch your devices's camera, focus on the recharge card / eVoucher number. Once focused, take a snapshot. The OCR will now identify the number read and populate the required field.
  • Why does Smart Salik require access to my Camera/microphone services on my Smartphone?
    The Smart Salik app will access these services to allow you to use the OCR feature to read the numbers when recharging. On Android devices, the camera service is not separate from the microphone hence both services are being accessed.
Tags
  • Can I drive on the toll roads immediately after I buy my Salik tag?
    Yes. If your tag is properly installed and you’ve submitted a Salik application form with all your relevant information, your account will be charged with the toll and you won’t get a fine.
    If you don’t get an SMS acknowledging that we’ve registered your tag within 10 working days, please contact us.
  • Can I move my Salik tag to my other vehicle?
    No, your Salik tag should only be used on the vehicle it is assigned to on your Salik account. You cannot use the tag on another vehicle, even if the other vehicle is registered in your name. You must buy a Salik tag for each vehicle you own. If you try to remove a Salik tag from your vehicle, it will be damaged and will no longer work - so may get a fine.
    If you sell the vehilce you need to remove the tag from the vehicle and deactivate the tag from your Salik account immediately. If you do not do this you will be responsible for any tolls incurred by that vehicle by the new owner. You can Deactivate the tag by:

  • Can I use gates once I order a tag (vs buying a tag from a petrol station)?
    You can use the Salik gates once you receive an SMS of the successful payment. Once you receive your tag you must install it correctly on your windscreen to avoid any violations.
  • Do I require to submit any documents for online tag purchase?
    No. You need only to mention the vehicle details from the Vehicle Registration card to purchase a tag online.
  • Do tourists need a Salik tag?
    If you’re visiting from another emirate or country and you prefer to have your own car, you must buy a Salik tag, which will be active for several years. If you hire a car, it will already have a Salik tag.
  • How can I buy a Salik tag online?
    You can purchase your Salik tag online www.salik.gov.ae for both existing account holders as well as for new Slaik accounts. Please note these are for private individuals only and not commercial accounts
  • How can I track my shipment?
    Your shipment can be tracked at www.aramex.com using the shipment number sent to you via SMS.
  • How do I activate my Tag?

  • How do I install the tag to my windscreen?
  • How long will it take to receive the Salik tag?
    You should receive your Salik tag within 5 working days after receiving a confirmation SMS of the successful payment.
  • How will the tag be delivered?
    The tag will be delivered to you via a shipment company at the shipment address entered during the purchase process. Please note that some areas of the UAE are outside of the deliveyr area.
  • If I buy a tag online, Do I need to activate my tag once its delivered?
    No. Your Salik tag will have been activated automatically once you receive an SMS of the successful payment. Once you receive your tag you must install it correctly on your windscreen to avoid any violations.
  • What if I damage or lost my tag or it is stolen?
    If your Salik tag gets damaged you need to buy a new tag to replace it. 
    If your Slaik Tag lost or stolen you need to Deactivate it immediately or you will be responsible for any tolls incurred by that tag. You can Deactivate the tag by:

  • What is the cost of purchasing a Salik tag online?
    The total cost of a Salik tag is AED 120. This includes AED 50 for the cost of the tag, AED 50 for the prepaid toll, which will be added to your Salik account and AED 20 for the cost of delivery. Please note that some areas of the UAE are outside of the delivery area.
  • Where can I buy my Salik tag?
    You can buy your tag online here, and it will be delivered directly to you. Your tag will be automatically activated after we process your online payment.
    OR
    You can buy your Salik tag from selected branches of Emarat, EPPCO/ ENOC or ADNOC petrol stations, Dubai Islamic Bank or Emirates NBD Bank.
    After buying your tag from one of these retail outlets, if you don’t get an SMS acknowledging that we’ve registered your tag within 10 working days, please contact us.
  • Who can buy a Salik tag onine?
    Online purchase is only available to individuals for use on vehicles with private and motorcycle plate categories, registerd in the UAE. Online tag purchase is not available to Fleet or Corporate customers. Please contact Salik on 800 SALIK to enquire about Fleet or Corporate services.
Tolls & Charges
  • Are Salik gates free on public holidays?
    No. All Salik gates are active every day. The only exception is the Al Maktoum bridge which is free at night only.
  • Are there any other Salik gates that have free-of-charge time periods like Al Maktoum Bridge?
    No, there are no other gates
  • How can I avoid the toll gates on my trip?
    Download the RTA Smart Drive App or visit the www.rta.gov.ae Journey Planner to find a route that suits you.
  • If I pass through Al Mamzar North toll gate and then Al Mamzar Southa toll gate, do I pay twice?
    If you pass through the Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South toll gates one after the other, within one hour and without exiting the highway in between the gates, you will only pay one toll fee.
  • If I pass through Al Safa toll gate and then Al Barsha toll gate, do I pay twice?
    If you pass through the Al Safa and Al Barsha toll gates one after the other, within one hour and without exiting the highway in between the gates, you will only pay one toll fee.
  • If I pass through an Al Mamzar gate and then the Airport Tunnel gate, will I be charged at both gates?
    Yes
  • If I pass through one Al Mamzar gate, take the next exit and return through the Salik toll gate on the opposite side of the road, will I be charged at both gates?
    Yes
  • What disabilities qualify for Salik exemptions?
    You can apply for an exemption from Salik toll fees if you are challenged in any of the following categories:
    • Mental disabilities
    • Physical disabilities
    • Autism
    • Visual disabilities.
  • What vehicles are exempted from toll fees?
    You’re only exempted from toll fees if your vehicle is registered as a military or police vehicle or is an ambulance, school, college or RTA public bus. If you have a disability, you are also exempted. (Apply for Exemption)

  • Can I appeal my violation if I don’t agree with the outcome?
    If you have any further evidence that supports your dispute, you have the right to appeal the outcome of your original dispute by submitting your request in writing, along with your additional evidence, to:

  • How do I know if I have any Salik fines?
    You may receive an SMS for Traffic Department however there is no guarantee you will receive the SMS. As the owner of the vehicle, you are responsible for paying all tolls and fines. You can view your recent trips, pending trips and violations at:

    You can pay your Salik fine online at:
    www.rta.ae (Click “Fines Enquiry & Payment”)
    www.dubaipolice.gov.ae (if you’re a Dubai resident and it is a Dubai plate number)
    www.adpolice.gov.ae (if you live in another emirate or if your vehicle plate number is non-Dubai)
    • Emirates NBD internet banking (if you are an Emirates NBD customer).
    OR
    You can visit any Dubai Vehicle Registration Department if your vehicle is registered in Dubai.
  • I have received violations that I do not think are correct, what can I do?
    You can dispute your Salik fines by:

  • I needed to re-register my car and have already paid my fine; can I still dispute my violation?
    Yes. Submit your dispute give us a copy of your payment receipt. You can only dispute a violation that has been posted to your account within the last 120 days, even if it is paid. You will receive a refund of your payment if the decision is in your favor.

  • Is my fine legitimate if I didn’t get an SMS saying I had insufficient funds in my account?
    Yes. You may not necessarily get an SMS from us if your Salik balance has run out. You are responsible for making sure that your tag is registered and that you have enough funds in your account to cover your road tolls. You can check your balance by:

  • Someone else was driving my car when I got a Salik fine. Do I have to pay it?
    Yes. As the owner of the vehicle, you are responsible for paying all tolls and fines, regardless of who was driving at the time of the violation.  You can view your recent trips, pending trips and violations at:

  • What are the different types of Salik violation and how much are they?
    There are two types of Salik violations; Insufficient Funds on your account and Unregistered Plate
     
    Insufficient Funds (ISF Violation)
    If you drive through a Salik toll gate with insufficient funds in your Salik account to cover the toll fee and you don’t recharge your account within 5 working days, you’ll incur a AED 50 violation. There is a maximum 1 Violation per day if you travel through multiple times during the day.
    Add something around checking balance, app dashboard, etc.
     
    Unregistered Plate (URP Violation)
    If you drive through a Salik toll gate without a registered Salik tag on your vehicle and you don’t buy and register one with within 10 working days, you’ll get a fine:
    • AED 100 the first time,
    • AED 200 the second time, and
    • AED 400 each subsequent time you drive through a toll gate.
    There is a maximum 1 Violation per day if you travel through multiple times during the day.
